How to Check PF Balance by UAN Number?
PF Balance Check via EPF Portal
To access your EPF balance online, your UAN must be activated. Follow these steps:
- Visit the EPF Portal and select ‘For Employees’ under the ‘Services’ section.
- Click on ‘Member Passbook’ to proceed.
- Enter your UAN, password, and captcha, then click Sign In.
- If you forgot your password, reset it through the UAN portal.
- A six-digit OTP will be sent to your Aadhaar-linked mobile number.
- Enter the OTP and click Verify to view your PF balance.
Requirements for Checking PF Balance via EPFO Portal
- Your UAN must be registered and activated on the EPFO portal.
- The passbook feature is accessible six hours after UAN registration.
- Members of exempted establishments or private trusts cannot check balance via the EPFO portal.
Check PF Balance Using the UMANG/EPFO App
The Unified Mobile Application for New-age Governance (UMANG) allows employees to check their EPF balance and track claims. To use the app, follow these steps:
- Download the UMANG app from the Google Play Store or App Store.
- Click on Profile > Services > Social Security > EPFO.
- Under Employee Centric Services, select ‘View Passbook’.
- Enter your UAN, and an OTP will be sent to your registered mobile number.
- Enter the OTP and click Submit.
- Select your company to view and download your EPF passbook.

To receive PF balance details via SMS, ensure that your UAN is linked to KYC.
- Send an SMS to 7738299899 in the format: ‘EPFOHO UAN ENG’.
- The first three letters specify the preferred language (e.g., ‘ENG’ for English).
This facility is available in multiple languages, including Hindi (HIN), Marathi (MAR), Tamil (TAM), Bengali (BEN), and more.
Check PF Balance Through a Missed Call
Employees can check their EPF balance via missed call from a registered mobile number.
- Give a missed call to 9966044425.
- You will receive an SMS with your PF balance details.
Eligibility for Missed Call Facility
- Your UAN must be activated and linked to PAN, Aadhaar, and a bank account.
- The missed call must be made from your registered mobile number.
- No charges are applied for this service.
How to Check PF Balance without Registered Mobile Number?
If your registered mobile number is unavailable, you can still check your PF balance using UAN and password.
- Visit the EPF portal and select ‘e-Passbook’.
- Enter UAN, password, and captcha, then click Sign In.
- Click on the ‘Passbook’ option.
- Select the Member ID to view your balance.
- Download the EPF passbook by clicking ‘Download as PDF’.
How to Check EPF Balance for Exempted Establishments?
Employees working in exempted establishments or private trusts cannot check their PF balance through the EPFO portal. Instead, they must:
- Check salary slips for PF deductions.
- Use their company’s employee portal for balance details.
- Request information from the HR department.
