Quick and Simple: A Complete Guide to Port Your Vi Number to Jio

How to Port Your Vi Number to Jio: A Step-by-Step Guide

If you’re looking to switch from Vi (Vodafone Idea) to Jio, the process is quick, straightforward, and can be completed in just a few steps. By following the porting procedure correctly, you can retain your existing number while enjoying Jio’s plans and services.

Step 1: Generate Your Unique Porting Code (UPC)

Begin by sending an SMS from your current Vi number to initiate the porting request.

  • Type “PORT <10-digit mobile number>” and send it to 1900.
  • You will receive a response with your Unique Porting Code (UPC) along with an expiry date.
  • This code is essential for initiating the transfer and is valid for a limited period.

Step 2: Visit Your Nearest Jio Store or Retailer

Once you have the UPC, head to an authorized Jio outlet to proceed with the porting.

  • Carry your original Aadhaar card, or other valid Proof of Address (POA) and Proof of Identity (POI).
  • The store executive will verify your documents and begin the porting process using the UPC.

Step 3: Complete the Porting Procedure

At the Jio store, a representative will guide you through the final steps of the transition.

  • You’ll be asked to fill out a Customer Application Form (CAF) with your personal details and the UPC.
  • Select your preferred Jio prepaid or postpaid plan during this process.
  • Submit all necessary documents and the filled-out CAF.
  • You’ll be issued a new Jio SIM card, which will be activated after the porting is completed.

What Happens After Submission?

The porting typically takes up to 3 working days to complete.

  • Until then, your existing Vi SIM will remain active, ensuring uninterrupted service.
  • Once the port is successful, your Vi SIM will stop working, and you can start using your new Jio SIM.
  • Insert the new SIM into your phone, and you’re good to go.

Important Tips Before You Port

  • Ensure your Vi number is active for at least 90 days before initiating a port request.
  • Clear any outstanding dues on your current Vi account to avoid rejection.
  • Keep your UPC valid by initiating the porting process before the code expires.

By following these steps, you can switch to Jio while keeping your number, and enjoy faster data, wider coverage, and affordable plans.
