BSNL Cuts Validity on ₹107 Prepaid Plan, Raises Effective Cost for Users
With reduced validity and unchanged benefits, BSNL’s affordable plan becomes costlier per day for budget-conscious users.
BSNL reduces ₹107 plan validity to 28 days
Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has revised its popular ₹107 prepaid recharge plan, reducing the validity from 35 days to 28 days, while keeping the data and voice benefits unchanged.
- The plan still offers 3GB of total data, 200 minutes of free voice calling, and post-data speeds throttled to 40 Kbps.
- Despite no change in core benefits, the 7-day reduction in validity increases the daily effective cost, making it less value-friendly for long-term users.
Revised plan raises daily cost
The effective daily cost of the ₹107 plan has risen from ₹3.05 to ₹3.82, a nearly 25% increase in daily expenditure for the same usage benefits.
- This change indirectly impacts low-budget users, especially in rural and semi-urban areas where BSNL maintains a loyal base.
- Although marginal on paper, the reduction reflects broader cost-optimization strategies as BSNL prepares for upcoming network upgrades.
BSNL focuses on 4G and 5G expansion
The revision comes at a time when BSNL is aggressively expanding its 4G footprint and preparing to launch 5G services in select urban areas.
- BSNL recently launched Q-5G FWA (AirFiber) services to compete with Jio and Airtel in the fixed wireless segment.
- The telco plans to launch 5G in major cities like Delhi by September 2025, further backed by government support.
Future roadmap: 1 lakh 4G sites and beyond
BSNL is reportedly close to reaching its initial milestone of deploying 1 lakh 4G sites across India.
- The company is set to seek cabinet approval for an additional 1 lakh 4G site deployments, a move expected to improve service reach and data experience.
- BSNL has also recorded consecutive quarters of net profit, signaling financial stabilization and operational progress amid rising competition.
