Bengaluru Rated The Most Liveable City In India; Delhi Ranks 13th

Minister of State, Housing and Urban Affairs, Shri Hardeep Singh Puri, recently declared the ultimate rankings of this Ease of Living Index (EoLI) 2020. Bengaluru possesses the number 1 rank in the Million+ category ( cities with more than one million people), and Delhi ranked 13th. Pune, Ahmedabad, and Chennai have perceived the 3rd, 4th, and 5th positions, sequentially. Read on to know more.

What Is the Ease of Living Index?

A statement issued by the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs states, “The Ease of Living Index (EoLI) is an evaluation tool that assesses the quality of life and the impact of various actions for urban development. It implements a comprehensive understanding of participating cities across India based on the quality of life, economic-ability of a city, also its sustainability and resilience.”

The index evaluates the city’s liveability over three pillars

  • The quality of life,
  • Financial ability,
  • Sustainability.

These three pillars span across 13 categories and 49 indicators.

Shimla Is The Best Small City, As Per The Evaluation

The EoLI assessed 49 cities with over one million population and 62 with less than a million residents. While Bangalore possesses ranked best in the Million+ category, Shimla maintains the top position in the Less Than Million Category, succeeded by Bhubaneshwar, Silvassa, and Kakinada. Srinagar has outranked the least among big towns. Muzaffarpur is at the base of the list of small towns.
