Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd. (APSEZ) has expanded its partnership with US-based supply chain technology company Kaleris, deepening its push into AI-driven port operations as it works toward its target of handling one billion tonnes of cargo annually by 2030.
The announcement was disclosed on June 16, 2026.
Shares of APSEZ were trading at Rs. 1,825.70, up 1.16 percent from the previous close of Rs. 1,804.80. The company has a market capitalization of Rs. 4.21 lakh crore and trades at a P/E ratio of 33.2.
AI systems to be deployed across 15 terminals
Under the expanded agreement, Kaleris will implement its N4 Terminal Operating System (TOS) and AI-based optimization tools across all 15 container terminals operated by Adani Ports.
These terminals are spread across nine domestic and international ports.
The rollout represents a major expansion from the earlier phase, which covered six ports.
Expected productivity gains
According to the company, the technology deployment is expected to deliver:
- Around 20 percent improvement in Rubber Tyred Gantry crane productivity.
- Approximately 14 percent increase in terminal truck productivity.
- Faster vessel turnaround times.
- Higher cargo throughput.
- Improved customer service.
Part of a broader technology investment plan
Adani Ports has earmarked $100 million for automation and AI optimization under the Kaleris partnership.
The investment forms part of the company’s wider $850 million technology and decarbonization programme extending through 2031.
FY26 financial highlights
The company reported:
- Revenue of Rs. 31,450 crore, up 17.8 percent year-on-year.
- EBITDA of Rs. 18,520 crore.
- EBITDA margin of nearly 59 percent.
- Cash reserves of approximately Rs. 12,450 crore.
The strong balance sheet gives APSEZ room to fund digital initiatives without significantly increasing debt.
Global rollout to include overseas assets
The expanded platform will also cover international operations, including:
- Dar es Salaam Port, Tanzania
- Colombo West International Terminal, Sri Lanka
The AI systems are also expected to play an important role at Vizhinjam Port in Kerala, which started commercial transshipment operations in late 2025.
The technology will help optimize:
- Berth allocation
- Yard management
- Crane movement
- Cargo flows
Management sees these capabilities as essential for competing with major transshipment hubs such as Singapore and Colombo.
Capacity target of one billion tonnes
Adani Ports currently has installed cargo handling capacity of about 653 million metric tonnes (MMT) annually.
The company aims to increase this to one billion tonnes by 2030.
Importantly, management expects to unlock around 91 MMT of additional capacity through efficiency improvements rather than fresh infrastructure investment.
That would represent nearly 10 percent of the existing capacity base.
Global rankings and operational milestones
According to the latest World Bank Container Port Performance Index (CPPI), five APSEZ-operated ports, including Mundra and Kattupalli, ranked among the world’s top 50 container ports.
Mundra Port milestones
- Became the first Indian port to handle 18 million TEUs during FY26.
- Management aims to push Mundra into the global top 10 port rankings by 2028.
Technology and sustainability goals
The AI rollout is also linked to APSEZ’s environmental targets.
The company believes better truck productivity and optimized cargo movements can reduce idle time and fuel consumption.
Management estimates these improvements could lower port-gate carbon emissions by around 12 percent by 2030.
APSEZ has set a target of achieving net-zero emissions by 2040.
