Galaxy A54 to Get One UI 8: New OS Promises Fresh UI and Better Performance

With One UI 8 in testing, Samsung’s mid-range champ inches closer to its third major Android upgrade

Galaxy A54 Begins Android 16 Internal Testing

Samsung has officially begun testing Android 16 (One UI 8) for the Galaxy A54 5G, signaling a strong commitment to mid-range users. A recent Geekbench listing confirmed the device running Android 16, posting scores of:

  • 1012 (single-core)
  • 2574 (multi-core)

While these numbers are early and optimization is still underway, they confirm that the third major OS upgrade for the A54 is already in development.

From Android 13 to 16: A Solid Software Journey

The Galaxy A54 5G, launched in March 2023, originally shipped with Android 13. Samsung has since upgraded the device to:

  • Android 14
  • Android 15

With Android 16 now in testing, the A54 is on track for four major OS upgrades, thanks to Samsung’s extended support policy for newer mid-range devices.

  • Chipset: Exynos 1380
  • Support roadmap: 4 OS + 4 years of security updates
  • Design: Flagship-inspired with slightly scaled-down internals

What to Expect from One UI 8 on the A54

While One UI 7 brought bold design changes and new customization tools, One UI 8 builds on that foundation with:

  • Refined user experience
  • Improved system animations
  • Smoother app transitions
  • Enhanced multitasking features
  • Better battery and memory optimization

These updates aim to enhance daily performance on the Galaxy A54 without requiring newer hardware.

One UI 8 is currently available only on the Galaxy S25 series (Beta) and new foldables (preinstalled). But its arrival on a two-year-old mid-ranger like the A54 shows Samsung’s confidence in the update’s scalability.

Rollout Timeline: What’s Next?

Though the Galaxy A54 isn’t first in line, the internal testing means users won’t have to wait long:

  • Expect the official One UI 8 rollout for the A54 to begin late Q3 or early Q4 2025.
  • Stable builds could follow soon after S-series and foldables receive final releases.
  • Public beta testing may or may not extend to the A-series, depending on regional support.

Samsung’s quick development pace suggests the update could land faster than expected.
