Galaxy S26 vs. S25: Why UFS 4.1 Could Be a Game-Changer

The upcoming Galaxy S26 lineup may set a new performance standard with UFS 4.1, faster data speeds, and next-gen video recording support.


UFS 4.1: A Big Leap in Storage Performance

The Samsung Galaxy S26 series could be the company’s fastest Android flagship yet, thanks to UFS 4.1 storage.

  • Samsung has been using UFS 4.0 since the Galaxy S23, and it carried through to the S24 and S25.
  • With the S26 Pro, Edge, and Ultra, Samsung is expected to make the jump to UFS 4.1 for the first time in three years.
  • Much of this is enabled by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, which natively supports UFS 4.1.

Earlier this year, Micron introduced UFS 4.1 solutions, and since Samsung sources a large portion of its memory chips from Micron, the timing aligns well for this upgrade.


What UFS 4.1 Delivers

Compared to UFS 4.0, Micron’s UFS 4.1 offers:

  • 15% faster sequential writing speeds.
  • 10% improvements in random read and write speeds.
  • Reduced latency distribution, meaning fewer slowdowns under heavy use.

This translates to:

  • Faster data processing.
  • Quicker dataset access for apps and games.
  • Smoother overall system responsiveness.

For users, this means everything from app launches to multitasking should feel snappier on the Galaxy S26 series.


Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5: More Than Just Speed

The Galaxy S26 series will likely be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 in many regions. Key features include:

  • UFS 4.1 compatibility for boosted storage speeds.
  • Support for APV (Advanced Progressive Video) recording, unlocking potential for higher-quality video capture.
  • Improvements across AI performance, graphics, and efficiency.

If Samsung enables APV recording, the S26 lineup could set a new standard in mobile videography.


Exynos 2600: Samsung’s In-House Ambition

While Qualcomm’s chip will take center stage globally, Samsung is also testing its own Exynos 2600 for the Galaxy S26 series.

  • The company is reportedly considering using Exynos even in the Ultra variant, which would mark a major expansion of its in-house chip strategy.
  • This could help Samsung reduce reliance on Qualcomm while keeping tight integration between hardware and software.
