One UI 8 Debuts Dynamic Lock Screen Clock You Can Move Anywhere
Samsung’s Latest UI Lets Your Clock Dance Around Your Wallpaper for a Personalized Look
With the launch of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7, Samsung has officially rolled out One UI 8, bringing a host of refinements—most notably a fully customizable lock screen clock. Gone are the days when your clock was stuck in the center; now you can drag it to any corner, nook, or cranny of your wallpaper.
Stylish Clock Customization
One UI 8 introduces a new font and fluid clock animations on the lock screen. In the Customize menu, head to the Clock Style slider:
- Drag & drop your clock freely across the screen.
- Choose from multiple typefaces and weight options.
- See your adjustments live before tapping Save.
This level of control makes your lock screen truly unique, whether you prefer the clock perched atop a sunrise shot or tucked beside a favorite pet.
AI-Powered Placement Optimization
Thanks to Galaxy AI, the clock will automatically shift to avoid obscuring key elements in your wallpaper. For example:
- If a dog’s snout sits in the middle of your photo, your clock slides around it.
- Faces, animals, and objects are detected in real time to maintain visual harmony.
This ensures your chosen background remains the star of the show—no cropping or awkward overlays.
Debut on Fold 7 and Flip 7
Samsung prioritized its foldable lineup for One UI 8’s public debut. Both the Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 showcase the new lock screen clock, paired with:
- Revised quick-settings tiles for faster access
- Enhanced Galaxy AI tools for context-aware suggestions
- Fluid system animations throughout the UI
While the S25 series Beta is live, this clock feature is currently exclusive to the foldables’ stable release.
Beta Rollout and Wider Availability
Though spotted in internal S25 Beta builds, the movable clock hasn’t reached all testers—yet. Expect Samsung to:
- Include it in the next S25 Beta update (likely late July).
- Push a public One UI 8 release to S23/S24/S25 series by Q4 2025.
- Extend support to older devices via One UI 8 Watch and tablet updates.
How to Try It Today
If you own a Z Fold 7 or Flip 7:
- Update to One UI 8 in Settings > Software update.
- Long-press an empty lock screen area and tap Customize.
- Select Clock Style, then drag the clock wherever you like.
For S25 Beta users, keep an eye on Samsung Members for the upcoming build that unlocks this feature.
What’s Next
Samsung’s move toward AI-driven personalization hints at more dynamic UI elements on the horizon:
- Adaptive widgets that rearrange based on your routine
- Live wallpaper adjustments reacting to time of day
- Contextual lock screen shortcuts that surface relevant apps
One UI 8’s floating clock is just the opening act in Samsung’s journey to make your device feel truly your own.
