The Special Edition foldable gets its long-awaited Android 16 update, complete with Now Brief and new AI tools.
Galaxy Z Fold SE Joins the One UI 8 Club
Samsung has officially begun rolling out the Android 16-based One UI 8 update for the Galaxy Z Fold SE, its special edition foldable. The rollout starts in South Korea, with China expansion expected soon.
- PDA build version: F958NKSU2CYI7
- Security patch: September 2025
While other foldables participated in Samsung’s One UI 8 Beta Program, the Fold SE did not. That makes this release the first stable One UI 8 build available for the device — and a major step forward for its users.
What’s New for Fold SE Users
The One UI 8 update focuses on refinements and smart AI tools rather than dramatic redesigns. Still, the changes are meaningful for productivity-heavy foldable users.
- Now Brief: Samsung’s personalized info hub is now available on the Fold SE. It delivers AI-powered summaries with read-aloud options, YouTube video integration, and contextual suggestions.
- Audio Eraser: Expanded across apps, including Samsung Gallery, with a toggle for quick removal of background noise in videos.
- Improved app design: Cleaner layouts and reorganized menus for smoother daily use.
- General stability: Bug fixes, performance tuning, and better animations across the OS.
While it’s not a massive overhaul compared to One UI 7, Android 16 + One UI 8 lays the groundwork for the bigger One UI 8.5 upgrade coming in early 2026.
Limited Device Availability
The Galaxy Z Fold SE had a restricted release, available only in China and South Korea. Despite the limited market, Samsung is supporting the model with timely updates in line with its other foldable devices.
How to Update
If you own a Galaxy Z Fold SE:
- Open Settings.
- Go to Software update.
- Tap Download and install.
⚠️ The update package is large (several GBs), so Samsung recommends using a stable, unmetered Wi-Fi connection.
Why It Matters
The Fold SE update reflects Samsung’s strategy of delivering uniform software experiences across its premium and niche devices. With One UI 8, Fold SE owners gain access to the latest AI-driven features and security improvements, ensuring the device remains relevant despite its limited distribution.
