Samsung’s Z Fold 7 Outsells All Previous Foldables in U.S. Pre-Orders

Thinner design, stronger features, and bold new colors drive record-breaking demand for Samsung’s latest foldable

Galaxy Z Fold 7 Breaks Pre-Order Records in the U.S.

Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7 has become the most pre-ordered foldable phone in U.S. history, according to the company’s latest announcement. Surpassing all previous Galaxy Z Fold models, the Fold 7 is selling 50% faster than its predecessor, the Fold 6.

  • Pre-orders for both the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 are up 25% compared to last year.
  • Mobile carriers report a 60% increase in pre-order volumes year-over-year.
  • Sales momentum began immediately after availability opened on July 25.

What’s Driving the Demand?

The Z Fold 7’s design and performance upgrades appear to be winning over consumers. Key improvements include:

  • A thinner and lighter body, making the device more practical to carry
  • A larger display area for immersive multitasking and entertainment
  • Enhanced camera system and battery life
  • Upgraded durability, addressing one of the top concerns with earlier foldables

These changes make the Fold 7 not only futuristic—but also functional for daily use.

In a noticeable shift, Samsung reports a change in color preferences among early buyers:

  • Blue Shadow accounts for nearly 50% of Z Fold 7 pre-orders, overtaking traditional black.
  • For the Z Flip 7, Coralred has emerged as a fan favorite, making up 25% of pre-orders.

These results suggest that consumers are more open to expressive, standout finishes, especially in the premium segment.

Samsung Says Foldables Are Going Mainstream

Drew Blackard, SVP of Mobile Product Management at Samsung America, put it simply:

“Foldables have reached an inflection point as they are becoming a mainstream choice for users.”

According to Blackard, once people experience a Z series device hands-on, they’re hooked—a clear sign that foldables are no longer niche.

Why This Matters

The success of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 reinforces several key trends:

  • Foldables are shifting from curiosity to choice.
  • Improved design and usability are accelerating adoption.
  • Samsung’s ongoing leadership in the space gives it a first-mover advantage—but also raises expectations for the upcoming Z Fold 8 amid growing competition (including Apple).

With record-breaking numbers and strong carrier participation, the Fold 7 has firmly entered the mainstream conversation.
