Solapur’s IT Leap: 964 Hectares Planned for India’s Next Big Tech Park

The ambitious IT park aims to generate massive employment and decentralize tech growth beyond Pune, transforming Solapur into a new digital hub

A Major Tech Boost for Solapur

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has announced the establishment of India’s third-largest IT park in Solapur, marking a pivotal moment in the region’s industrial and technological development. This move positions Solapur as the next big player in Maharashtra’s growing IT landscape, following Pune’s Hinjawadi IT Park.

  • Solapur will become home to Maharashtra’s second-largest IT park, offering new job opportunities for the region’s youth.
  • The decision aims to reduce migration to Pune by creating tech-sector employment closer to home.

“We will provide large-scale employment opportunities to the children of Solapur who are currently based in Pune,” said CM Fadnavis.

Planning Already Underway

Preparations for the Solapur IT park are progressing swiftly. CM Fadnavis has already instructed officials to identify suitable land, and local authorities are actively working on proposals.

  • The Kumbhari Industrial Estate, located 8–10 km from Solapur city, has been initially proposed.
  • District Collector Kumar Ashirwad has directed MIDC officials to locate potential land parcels.
  • A proposal to acquire 964 hectares has been revived, with ₹24 crore sought for the process.

In addition, government and private land along the Solapur-Pune and Solapur-Vijayapura highways are also being explored to ensure long-term infrastructure scalability.

Why Solapur?

The push toward decentralization comes as space and infrastructure constraints emerge in Pune’s Hinjawadi IT Park, currently India’s second-largest.

  • Hinjawadi hosts multiple global tech giants and contributes significantly to state and national revenues.
  • With limited space left for expansion, plans are underway for another IT park in Pune on 1,500 acres, while Solapur’s IT park provides a fresh opportunity to distribute Maharashtra’s tech ecosystem.

Strategic Benefits

The Solapur IT park is expected to:

  • Create thousands of jobs locally, especially for tech graduates from Solapur and nearby districts
  • Boost regional infrastructure, including roads, housing, and utilities
  • Attract national and international tech companies, offering cost-effective operations compared to metro cities
  • Encourage reverse migration, where professionals can work in their hometowns without sacrificing career growth

Connectivity Strengthens the Case

The timing of the announcement aligns with the inauguration of Solapur-Mumbai and Solapur-Bengaluru flights, enhancing the city’s air connectivity—a critical factor for IT growth.

This logistical upgrade strengthens Solapur’s positioning as an emerging IT destination, well connected to India’s financial and tech capitals.

Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis has announced the setup of India’s third-largest IT park in Solapur. Following Pune’s Hinjawadi, this initiative aims to generate local jobs, reduce migration, and position Solapur as a future tech hub. Land proposals are being actively evaluated to kickstart the project.
