IMD Issues Orange Alert for Thunderstorms Across Multiple Regions
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for the next two to three days, warning of thunderstorms and gusty winds across Northwest India.
- This alert indicates moderate weather risk that may cause disruptions, especially in transport and daily routines.
- The warning is focused on states like Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, and western Uttar Pradesh, which are expected to witness intense weather activity.
Thunderstorm Alerts for Eastern India Till Thursday
The IMD has also forecasted thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds over parts of Eastern India, particularly in Odisha, West Bengal, and Jharkhand, until Thursday.
- These areas may experience frequent lightning and sudden wind gusts, potentially affecting agriculture, power lines, and outdoor movement.
- Residents are advised to avoid open spaces during lightning activity and secure loose outdoor items to prevent hazards.
Southern States to See Weeklong Instability
In Southern India, unstable weather is expected to persist throughout the week, covering Karnataka, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Rayalaseema, and Tamil Nadu.
- Additional regions under alert include Kerala, Mahe, Puducherry, Yanam, and Karaikal, which may witness daily spells of rain and thunderstorms.
- The IMD advises residents in these areas to be cautious of waterlogging, reduced visibility, and travel disruptions due to recurring weather disturbances.
No Heatwave Conditions Across the Country
According to Senior IMD scientist R.K. Jenamani, there are no heatwave conditions currently anywhere in India, offering a temporary relief from extreme summer temperatures.
- Typically hot regions are experiencing below-normal temperatures, especially in the north and central plains, due to ongoing weather systems.
- The scientist noted that such patterns are seasonal anomalies and could be linked to pre-monsoon activities intensifying earlier than expected.
Delhi to Experience Cooler Weather and Light Rain
Delhi NCR is expected to receive light rainfall until Wednesday, helping maintain temperatures below 40°C, according to IMD forecasts.
- The combination of cloud cover and precipitation will keep daytime heat in check, offering respite from peak summer discomfort.
- Commuters in the capital should remain cautious of slippery roads and short-term traffic delays, especially during early morning and evening hours.
