What is the Adaptive Clock in One UI 8.0?
With the One UI 8.0 update, Samsung introduces a new Adaptive Clock design — a dynamic lock screen feature that adjusts its style and position to complement your wallpaper. It blends motion, animation, and design intelligence to enhance visual harmony between the clock and your background.
- Works best with portrait photos, animals, and well-defined shapes
- Offers adaptive styling depending on wallpaper content and screen layout
- Can be applied to existing or new wallpapers

Method 1: Apply Adaptive Clock to an Existing Wallpaper
- Access Wallpaper and Style:
- Pinch inward on your home screen
- Tap Wallpaper and style in the bottom-left corner
- Or go to Settings > Wallpaper and style
- Go to Lock Screen Settings:
- Tap on Lock Screen
- Tap Clock
- Choose Adaptive Clock Style:
- Under the Font and Colour section, select the second clock (highlighted with animated numbers)
- Navigate to the Style tab
- Select either the first or second clock style
- Adjust Placement:
- Use the customization tools to align the clock with your wallpaper
- Tap Done to apply
Method 2: Start Fresh with a New Wallpaper
- Choose a Wallpaper:
- Open your Gallery and select a photo
- Apply as Wallpaper:
- Tap the three dots at the top right
- Choose Set as wallpaper
- Select Lock Screen, Home Screen, or Both
- Customize Clock:
- Follow the same steps as above to set the adaptive clock style
- Position the wallpaper and clock to your liking
- Tap Done to finalize
Tips for an Optimal Adaptive Clock Experience
1. Choose the Right Wallpaper
- Use images with clear contours, like faces or animals
- Avoid cluttered or low-contrast backgrounds for better clock visibility
2. Ambient Wallpaper Compatibility
- The Adaptive Clock works seamlessly with ambient wallpapers, offering a subtle motion effect even when the screen is idle
3. Use Always-On Display (AOD)
- Enable AOD in Settings to enjoy a transitional view of your adaptive clock
- It enhances visibility and brings out the adaptive motion effect when your phone is idle
4. Go Beyond Defaults with LockStar
- Samsung’s Good Lock module LockStar removes default placement limits
- With LockStar, you can freely reposition the clock for maximum personalization
