Android Update Lets Travelers Share Tracker Data With Airlines

Google’s March Pixel Drop expands Find Hub, messaging, and Pixel Watch features—turning Android into a smarter travel and daily companion.

Google Turns Android Into a Lost Luggage Finder

Google is giving Android users a practical new way to track missing luggage. With the latest update, travelers can now share tracker tag locations directly with airlines to speed up baggage recovery.

The feature arrives as part of Google’s broader March Android update and Pixel Drop, which also introduces messaging, calling, and Pixel ecosystem upgrades.

If a suitcase has a Find Hub-compatible tracker tag, users can generate a secure link showing its location and send it to the airline handling the lost bag.

  • Users select the lost item in Find Hub
  • Tap “Share item location”
  • A secure URL is generated for airlines

Think of it like sending a live map pin for your luggage—except it updates as the bag moves through airports.

Google built the system with privacy controls designed for temporary tracking.

  • The tracking link expires automatically after seven days
  • Sharing stops once the user’s phone detects the luggage nearby
  • The link can be pasted into an airline’s app or website

This gives airlines real-time location context during baggage recovery—often the slowest step in the lost luggage process.

With over 26 million bags mishandled globally each year according to airline industry estimates, even small improvements in tracking can save airlines and passengers significant time.

Airlines Already Supporting the Feature

More than 10 international airlines now accept Find Hub tracking links during the baggage recovery process.

Participating carriers include:

  • AJet
  • Air India
  • China Airlines
  • Lufthansa Group (Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Swiss International Airlines)
  • Saudia Airlines
  • Scandinavian Airlines
  • Turkish Airlines

Google says more airlines will join the program in the future, expanding the ecosystem.

For travelers, this means airline staff could potentially pinpoint luggage location within minutes instead of relying on internal baggage scanning systems alone.

Google Messages Adds Real-Time Location Sharing

Beyond travel, Android users are also getting real-time location sharing inside Google Messages.

Users can now send their live position directly within a chat thread.

  • Friends or family can see movement on a map in real time
  • No need to switch to Google Maps or another app
  • Location updates remain embedded in the conversation

It’s a simple addition, but it pushes Google Messages closer to the feature set of apps like WhatsApp or iMessage.

Google Play Gets Short-Form App Discovery Videos

Google Play is also introducing a short-form video feed to help users discover new apps.

The feature allows people to:

  • Watch quick clips of apps in action
  • Understand how features work before downloading
  • Explore recommendations without leaving Google Play

Think TikTok—but for app discovery.

Phone App “Calling Cards” Personalize Incoming Calls

Google is adding a new visual layer to calls with Calling Cards in the Phone app.

This feature lets users customize the appearance of their contact screen when someone calls.

  • Personal photos
  • Custom layouts
  • Stylized visuals for incoming calls

The concept closely mirrors Apple’s Contact Posters introduced in iOS.

Android Auto Adds Educational Games for Kids

For families, Android Auto now includes educational play experiences designed for children aged 3–12.

These learning games aim to keep kids engaged during car trips.

  • Interactive educational content
  • Simple gameplay suited for younger users
  • Designed specifically for in-car experiences

Pixel Phones Get New AI Shopping and Style Tools

Pixel devices receive additional upgrades through Circle to Search.

Two new tools expand its visual search abilities:

  • Find the Look: Identifies individual clothing items within an outfit
  • Try It On: Pulls clothing from videos, images, or messages to preview how it looks on the user

In other words, Pixel phones are edging closer to becoming AI-powered shopping assistants.

Pixel Watch Adds Security and Gesture Controls

Pixel Watch users also gain several new features.

Key updates include:

  • Phone left-behind alerts
  • Automatic phone locking when the watch moves out of range
  • New gesture controls like double pinch or wrist turn

Pixel Watch 3 users can perform tasks one-handed, including:

  • Answering calls
  • Taking photos
  • Pausing workouts

Small gestures, big convenience.

TL;DR

Google’s March Android update introduces a lost luggage tracking tool, allowing users to share Find Hub tracker locations with airlines via secure links. The update also adds real-time location sharing in Google Messages, app discovery videos in Google Play, personalized calling screens, Pixel AI fashion tools, and new Pixel Watch gesture controls.
