Gemini AI integration, gesture controls, and noise features bring advanced functionality to Google’s latest earbuds
Pixel Buds Get Smarter with Gemini
Google is bringing its Gemini AI assistant to the center of its new Pixel Buds lineup, introducing smart, hands-free features and improved audio technology. Revealed at the Made by Google event, the Pixel Buds 2a and the Pixel Buds Pro 2 showcase how Google continues to push the envelope in AI-powered audio experiences.
Pixel Buds 2a: Budget-Friendly, Feature-Rich
The Pixel Buds 2a mark a significant upgrade over the previous A-Series, offering premium features once limited to higher-end models.
- Active Noise Cancellation:
Now standard, it effectively blocks unwanted background noise, delivering clearer audio and call quality. - Clear Calling:
Uses Google AI and wind-resistant mesh covers to reduce ambient noise during calls—ideal for outdoor conversations. - Transparency Mode:
A first for the A-Series, it allows users to remain aware of their surroundings while still enjoying audio content. - Gemini Hands-Free Integration:
Interact with Google’s AI assistant without lifting a finger—ask for directions, control playback, or check emails entirely by voice. - Design and Battery Enhancements:
The earbuds are the smallest and lightest in the series and offer double the battery life of their predecessors. The twist stabilizer ensures a more secure fit, while IP54 water resistance makes them workout-ready. - Price and Availability:
At $130, the Pixel Buds 2a now compete closely with premium options. Available in Hazel and Iris, they’ll be released on October 9, with preorders open now.
Pixel Buds Pro 2: Pro-Level Intelligence
The Pixel Buds Pro 2 build on their already-advanced foundation with an even deeper AI integration.
- Gesture Controls:
Accept or reject calls and messages by simply nodding or shaking your head—a first for Google earbuds, enabled by onboard motion sensors. - Expanded Gemini Functions:
Beyond basic tasks, you can now interact with other apps using Gemini—like adding to your Google Keep list or managing your Google Calendar. - Smarter Sound Controls:
- Adaptive Audio dynamically balances external noise and voice input.
- Loud Noise Protection reduces sudden sharp sounds to safeguard hearing.
- Pricing and Rollout:
Priced at $230 and available in Moonstone, the Pro 2 earbuds will begin shipping August 28. The advanced AI features will roll out via software update in September, accessible to both new and existing users.
A Unified AI-Driven Audio Ecosystem
With the Pixel Buds 2a and Pro 2, Google is clearly betting big on AI-powered personal audio. Features like head gestures, context-aware noise handling, and deep app integration redefine how users interact with their earbuds—not just for music or calls, but for productivity and convenience too.
