Indian Govt Blocks 45 YouTube Videos For Hateful Speech And Spreading Misinformation

YouTube has been banning a lot of videos and channels on demand of MIB and in the latest development, the video sharing platform has banned 45 YouTube videos from 10 YouTube channels. The intelligence agencies of India have suggested the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting take this decision. Take a look at the latest report.

YouTube Bans 45 Videos

MIB ordered YouTube to ban the videos on September 23 under “provisions of the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules 2021.” As per the report, the blocked videos have garnered more than 1 crore 30 lakh views on YouTube. The MIB confirmed that it has blocked 78 news channels and 560 URLs since 2021 for spreading fake news.

In a statement, the ministry revealed that the blocked channels indulged in promoting fake news and morphed videos in order to spread hatred among religious communities. False claims like Government has taken the rights of communities, threats against communities, and more were part of the videos. The banned videos were enough for provoking any community and create a situation of communal violence.

“Orders to block the concerned videos were issued on 23.09.2022 under the provisions of the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules 2021,” TOI quoted the ministry as saying. “The content was observed to be false and sensitive from the perspective of national security and India’s friendly relations with foreign states,” the ministry added.

The ministry also suggests that some of the videos were blocked because they were spreading misinformation regarding the Agnipath scheme, the Indian Armed Forces, Kashmir, and more.
