It’s a good idea to stash some old chargers somewhere because you’re going to need them.
As per The Verge stories that Google’s forthcoming new flagship smartphones, the Pixel 6 and the Pixel 6 Pro, won’t come with chargers, as do Apple’s latest iPhones and Samsung’s top models.
These phones should not be confused with Google’s Pixel 5a, which launched yesterday and comes with a charger in the box. Google says the Pixel 5a will probably be the last phone it ships with one.
The Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, coming later this year, will feature a completely new design and will feature Tensor, Google’s first custom chip for smartphones.
According to The Verge, Google’s reasoning for this decision – which is similar to what Samsung and Apple said when making the same decision – is that most people already have a USB-C charger, so there is no need to include a new one with their phones.
This might be true, but not for those who do not have an extra USB-C charger; in addition, this disregards the fact that mobile devices and chargers change over time, so the charger you use with your old phone may not charge your new one. The flip side is that not shipping millions of unnecessary chargers with phones is probably good for the environment.
