WWDC 2026: Apple adds customization to Liquid Glass

Apple is making changes to its Liquid Glass interface following mixed reactions to the design introduced at last year’s Worldwide Developers Conference.

The company announced the updates during WWDC 2026 on Monday, saying it has refined the underlying design to improve readability.

Focus on readability

Some users praised the transparent, glass-like appearance of Liquid Glass, while others criticized it for making text and content harder to read.

Apple said it is “updating the foundations of how Liquid Glass is built to ensure exceptional readability.”

According to the company, the interface will diffuse complex content behind panels to create greater depth and separation.

Users will have more control

Apple said it will not require users to adopt a single appearance.

New settings will allow people to adjust the effect with a slider that ranges from:

  • Ultra clear.
  • Partially tinted.
  • Fully tinted.

“Since everyone’s preference varies, we’re adding a new slider and settings to adjust Liquid Glass, so you can set it anywhere from ultra clear to fully tinted,” Apple said.

Redesigned app icons

Apple also announced updated app icons across iOS and macOS.

The company said the icons have been redesigned to create a more refined and consistent appearance.

Developers will be able to use Liquid Glass customizations inside their own applications when the changes launch.

Feedback shaped the update

Apple opened its WWDC presentation by acknowledging that the design would continue to evolve.

“Like with all major design updates, there is a natural process where we take a bold leap forward, and then we continue to iterate,” the company said.

“Our team really appreciates your feedback, and we considered it deeply as we refined the new design over the past year.”

TL;DR:

Apple is refining its Liquid Glass interface with improved readability and new customization settings. Users will be able to adjust the transparency effect, while redesigned app icons aim to create a more cohesive look.
