Imagine getting a Tesla Model 3, an iPhone or a gold bar as a reward for taking the COVID-19 vaccine. Sounds unbelievable? This is actually happening in Hong Kong as big companies have announced these super expensive rewards for those receiving the vaccine. Hong Kong’s Henderson Land Development Company has announced that all those who get vaccinated will stand a chance to win gold bars. Sun Hung Kai Properties Ltd is giving iPhones to vaccinated people. And Australia’s Goodman Group has announced a lottery for rewards of more than HK$1 million for the Hong Kong residents who get vaccinated by August 31, including a Tesla car.
The Rewards Aim To Boost The Vaccination Process
Countries across the world are taking several steps to encourage people to get vaccinated. And popular companies are offering the swankiest gifts to Hong Kong residents for taking the COVID-19 vaccination. Other companies have also announced shopping vouchers, subsidies, etc. as vaccination rewards. According to a Business Today report, Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam has stated in a weekly briefing, “The value of various lotteries or reward programs, we have learned from news reports, has exceeded HK$120 million.”
Hong Kong Has Put Special Restrictions On Unvaccinated People
After the announcement of the rewards, Hong Kong witnessed a rise in vaccination bookings in late May. Also, nearly 15.1% of Hong Kong’s 7.5 million population have been fully vaccinated against the virus now. The authorities have also put special restrictions on unvaccinated people in order to boost the vaccination programme.
