Origin and Introduction of Boer Goat:- This goat is native to south Africa and developed in 1900’s exclusively for meat production purpose. Currently, Boer goat has spread throughout the world. Boer goat farming is picking up in India as well. Basically “Boer” name was derived from Dutch word meaning farmer.

Why this goat became popular? 

Having a fast growth rate and excellent carcass qualities compared to other goat breeds made this goat popular.This goat is high degree of disease resistance and it can adapt to any kind of climates from hot to cold.The great striking difference between Boer goat and other breeds is “size”. As this goat was developed for meat and hardiness,will consistently produce more muscling in lesser time than any other goat breed and pass this characteristics onto their future generation. This goat requires minimal care and prefer natural gazing (trees,weeds and grasses) methods. These goats raised for meat purpose are typically raised on pastures and can be raised in combination with cattle.

Boer Goat Weight scale:-

  • Male Boer Goats: 75 to 90 kg.
  • Female Boer Goats: 45 to 55 kg.

Weight of pure & cross bred kids:


in 3 months period, they gain about: 12 to 18 kg.


in 6 months period, they weigh about : 18 to 30 kg.
