Russia Offers Elon Musk Political Asylum Amid Feud with Trump
Russian Officials Mock U.S. Politics as Tensions Escalate Between Musk and Former President
As tensions intensify between Elon Musk and former U.S. President Donald Trump, Russian lawmakers have jumped into the fray—offering the tech billionaire political asylum and using the spat to criticize the state of U.S. politics.
In a statement to state-run news agency TASS, Dmitry Novikov, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, remarked:
“I think that Musk has a completely different game, that he will not need any political asylum, although, if he did, Russia, of course, could provide it.”
Novikov, a senior member of Russia’s Communist Party, added that Musk appears to have developed a unique kind of “political communication” and is unlikely to align with any one faction within U.S. politics.
Russia Mocks U.S. Political Climate
Several high-profile Russian figures used the feud as an opportunity to both mock the U.S. and extend semi-serious offers of refuge and business relocation for Musk.
- Dmitry Rogozin, a former head of Russia’s space program and a nationalist senator, posted to Musk’s X platform: “Elon, don’t be upset! If you encounter insurmountable problems in the U.S., come to us. Here you will find reliable comrades and complete freedom of technical creativity.”
- Dmitry Medvedev, former Russian president and now deputy chair of the Security Council, joked: “We are ready to facilitate the conclusion of a peace deal between D and E for a reasonable fee and to accept Starlink shares as payment. Don’t fight, guys!”
- Margarita Simonyan, editor-in-chief of RT and a top Kremlin media voice, sarcastically described the feud as: “An example of modern U.S. political culture—sort of like the English Industrial Revolution. Only in reverse.”
Background: Why Is Musk in Conflict with Trump?
The latest spat stems from ongoing political and ideological clashes, with former White House adviser Steve Bannon recently calling Musk an “illegal alien” and calling for his deportation from the U.S., even suggesting the seizure of SpaceX—Musk’s federally contracted space company.
While Musk has not publicly commented directly on Bannon’s remarks, the tensions appear to reflect deeper rifts between him and the Trump-aligned political base. Musk, who has swung between libertarian and contrarian views, has criticized both Democratic and Republican establishments, creating uncertainty around his political allegiances.
Kremlin Response: “This Is a U.S. Matter”
When asked about the situation, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov declined to comment directly, stating:
“This is a domestic issue of the United States, and we don’t intend to interfere. We’re confident the U.S. president will handle this situation on his own.”
Still, the satirical offers and public commentary from multiple Russian officials suggest a keen interest in exploiting political division in the U.S. for narrative leverage—especially when it involves a global tech figure like Elon Musk.
