Are you a hardcore introvert and absolutely love to detach yourself from people to get lost in your very own world? Then there’s no perfect place than this house for you. It is nestled on the deserted island of Elliðaey in Iceland, right in the middle of the sea. It is a far cry from human habitation and is ruled by the roars of the mighty ocean. Imagine, you’re there, all alone, with a pile of books, the cold winds and the sound of the waves, amid the vast emptiness. Would you be excited? Or would you feel scared? No wonder, the nights can seem quite eerie here. But that can be an adventure too. Read on to know more!
The House Dates Back To The 1950s
Sources say that around 300 years ago, five families used to dwell on this island and they survived by raising cattle, hunting and fishing. The last ones who lived are known to have left the island in the 1930s. Since then, the island is deserted. And the only house existing there now is the loneliest in the world. Elliðaey Hunting Association had built the house on the island in the 1950s. The house doesn’t have electricity, running water or indoor plumbing. However, it is still privately owned and operated by the hunting association. The island spans across a sweeping 110 acres, and this makes the hunting lodge all the more secluded.

How To Reach The Island?
The Elliðaey island can be reached via a boat from the mainland side. You can reach the island on a boat from the main island of Heimaey. However, if you fascinate staying here, it is not allowed yet. You can stay here only if you happen to be a member of the Ellidaey Hunting Association, or maybe a close friend of a member. But even if you can’t halt for the night, a visit to the island alone is an experience in itself. Ain’t so?
