ChatGPT: The AI-Powered Chatbot Revolutionizing Text Generation

ChatGPT, developed by OpenAI, has become a sensation in the world of AI-powered chatbots. This advanced text-generating AI is capable of writing essays, coding, and much more based on short text prompts, significantly boosting productivity. However, like any powerful tool, it has its share of challenges.

AI technology is here to stay, and its presence has expanded exponentially since ChatGPT’s initial launch a few months ago. Major brands are already experimenting with it, leveraging the AI to generate ad and marketing copy, among other applications.

OpenAI has also been actively investing in the development of ChatGPT. Recently, ChatGPT received a significant upgrade with the integration of GPT-4, OpenAI’s latest language-writing model. Paying ChatGPT users now have access to GPT-4, which is more adept at writing in a natural and fluent manner compared to its predecessor. Moreover, OpenAI has made strides in further enhancing ChatGPT’s capabilities by connecting it to the internet with alpha plugins accessible to users and developers on the waitlist.

Here’s a timeline of the most recent updates and releases related to ChatGPT:

July 20, 2023: OpenAI introduces customized instructions for ChatGPT. Users can now provide specific instructions to ChatGPT to tailor its responses accordingly. For example, a teacher can specify the grade they are teaching, a developer can mention the preferred code language when seeking suggestions, and a person can share their family size to receive relevant responses about meals, groceries, and vacation planning.

July 13, 2023: Reports emerge of the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) investigating OpenAI over ChatGPT. The FTC is looking into potential violations, such as making false, misleading, disparaging, or harmful statements about individuals. Such investigations typically arise following a lawsuit or formal complaint that highlights potential regulatory non-compliance.

July 6, 2023: OpenAI announces the general availability of GPT-4. Existing OpenAI developers with a successful payment history gain access to GPT-4 starting July 6. OpenAI plans to expand access to new developers by the end of July. Furthermore, OpenAI intends to allow developers to fine-tune GPT-4 and GPT-3.5 Turbo, another original model powering ChatGPT, with their own data, just like with other text-generating models offered by OpenAI.

June 28, 2023: ChatGPT Plus subscribers gain access to a new feature called Browsing on the ChatGPT app. This feature allows ChatGPT to search the web specifically on Bing to find answers to user queries. Users can enable Browsing by selecting “GPT-4” in the model switcher and choosing “Browse with Bing” from the drop-down list in the app settings. The Browsing feature is available on both the iOS and Android versions of the ChatGPT app.

As ChatGPT continues to evolve, it is expected to shape the future of text generation and communication. However, it also poses challenges related to ethical use and potential misrepresentations, which OpenAI and regulatory bodies will need to address. Nevertheless, the potential for increased productivity and creativity offered by ChatGPT makes it an exciting advancement in the field of artificial intelligence.
