Volkswagen ID. Buzz Teaser: Retro Van is ‘Coming Soon’

Volkswagen ID is generating considerable buzz. Buzz. Therefore, its name is appropriate. However, will it still be buzzworthy once the colorful camouflage wrap is removed? That’s a question best answered later in 2022, as that’s when the Buzz goes live. Across the pond, anyway.

VW took to social media for a short, colorful teaser video giving us flashes of the front clip to keep the retro-inspired van fresh in peoples’ minds. And we do mean flashes, as in mega-short jump cuts that might make some photosensitive readers a bit woozy. Don’t say we didn’t warn you.

The Twitter post contains a couple of messages we already knew. The new ID. Buzz has “DNA of an icon,” which obviously refers to the classic T1 that became the poster child for carefree living during the 1960s. Volkswagen also says 2022 will be the year of the ID. It will debut and go into production in 2022.

Currently, there is no specific timetable for that, but it arrives first in Europe and takes on a variety of roles across private and commercial applications. It does include a new camper, but don’t get your hopes up in America. For now, we’re only hearing about the ID. In the States, Buzz will be a passenger van.

This isn’t the first glimpse we’ve had at the new van. It made an appearance during the ID.5 debut where we got a great look at the ID. Buzz in profile without the mind-bending jump cuts. A cargo version wearing clever camouflage was also photographed in public testing. Single-motor or dual-motor EVs should be available, turning either the rear wheels or all four with some models possibly delivering more than 400 horsepower. This is quite an improvement over the T1 of the past.
We’re likely to see more teasers before an official reveal next year. Hopefully, the final product will be worth the wait.
