Disney+ Hotstar Announces Three New Plans Starting At Rs 499 A Month

Disney+ Hotstar has implemented a handful of changes to its platform and among those fundamental changes is the introduction of updated plans for users. Disney+ Hotstar has revealed three new plans for the streaming platform.

The plans no longer follow the confusing blocks where a particular tier like ‘VIP’ allowed access to a restricted catalog of content, while ‘Premium’ subscribers paid more to access everything. That said, the entry point on the platform has increased from INR 399 to INR 499, and the premium plans can now cost up to INR 1,499.

Earlier, users on a ‘Premium’ membership could not access content such Disney+ Originals, TV Series from Disney, Marvel, Showtime, HBO, Star Wars, National Geographic, FX, 20th Century, and Searchlight Pictures. No matter what plan you subscribe to, you will have access to the same extensive library of content.

The new plans have been assessed according to the streaming quality (HD or 4K) and the maximum number of devices that member will be able to access simultaneously.

INR 499/year Plan – The entry point for the Disney+ Hotstar plan now offers the entire bouquet of content. However, the streaming quality has been limited to HD, and the content will only be available on mobile phones. This plan is akin to the mobile offered by Netflix.

INR 899/year Plan – The plan offers the benefit of streaming HD content on two devices simultaneously, and there is no limitation on the form factor of the devices. It can be used for both mobile phones as well as TVs.

INR 1,499/year Plan – The flagship plan offers content in 4K, and this will be a significant upgrade compared to previous plans as users will be able to stream content simultaneously on four devices.

The pricing and benefits of the new plans are similar to the offerings by Netflix. However, in terms of overall pricing, Netflix still costs far more than its counterparts in the OTT space.
