From Abu Dhabi, Cyclists pedal to Expo 2020 Dubai in Celebration of UAE’s Golden Jubilee

Abu Dhabi’s streets were filled with cycling enthusiasts on Tuesday as they pedaled to Expo 2020 Dubai. To mark UAE’s Golden Jubilee celebrations, the cyclists pedaled for more than 100 kilometers.

Over 240 riders, representing 34 different nationalities, traveled from Abu Dhabi to Expo 2020 Dubai in an event called the ‘Golden Jubilee Tour’ held under the patronage of His Highness Lt. Gen. Sheikh Saif bin Zayed al Nahyan, UAE’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior.

To ensure smooth transition of the cyclists to the Expo, the Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) closed the Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Road, Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Road, and Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Road between 4 pm to allow the cyclists to pass.

The Ministry of Interior (MoI) organized the race as part of the UAE’s 50th anniversary of its union to celebrate the Golden Jubilee. The first group of cyclists crossed the finish line at Expo’s Boulevard 2020 at 1:30 PM GST.

The tour included stops at a number of tourist sites, educational paragraphs and accompanying events, during which the history and achievements of the Ministry of Interior during the race were reviewed.

An awards ceremony was held at Expo 2020’s Dubai Millennium Amphitheatre following the tiresome but fun race. Grega Bole, riding for the Shabab Al Ahli Cycling Team, won the first place, followed by Hamza Yacine, riding for the MOI Cycling Team, while Essaid Abelouache, riding for the Al Shafar Jumeirah Cycling Team, took third.
First place in the team category went to Al Shafar Jumeirah Cycling Team while Woosh bagged second prize and Yasi Team the third.
