Top 10 SUVs In India: Hyundai Creta Beats Seltos, Hector To Become India’s #1 SUV

Hyundai Creta is India’s #1 selling SUV, beating out 9 others from the stables of MG, Tata, and more.
Creta: India’s New Favourite
In fact, the Creta has become so popular in India that its current demand is 3x its production capacity.

Since its 2015 launch, 5.5 lakh units of the Creta have been sold in the Indian domestic market.

2.2 lakh units have been sold as exports.

The Creta and its tremendous popularity is testament to the fact that the Indian auto market is currently gripped by the SUV trend.

SUVs are reliable for its profitability and high volume generation capability.

Against Kia Seltos
Creta sold 12,640 units last month, registering a double jump from 6,706 units the previous year.

This marks an 88.5% Year-on-Year volume increase.

The Kia Seltos trailed in at 2nd position with sales of 10,557 units against 7,466 units sold in March 2020, i.e. a YoY sales increase of 41.4%.

The Seltos and Creta share common features in platform and powertrains.

Hyundai Future And Exports
In April, Hyundai launched its 6 and 7 seater Alcazar, based on the Creta but with wider dimensions and a more powerful engine.

The Creta is currently enjoying a global run with exports from its Chennai manufacturing facility to territories such as Mexico, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Nepal and Chile.

Apart from the Creta, 9 other Hyundai models that are exported include Santro (Atos), Grand i10, Xcent, Grand i10 NIOS, Aura (Grand i10), Verna (Accent), and Venue.

These models hit the roads in South and Central America along with Africa, Asia Pacific region and one country in Europe.
