Is ‘Better Luck Tomorrow’ Connected to ‘The Fast and the Furious’?

Justin Lin directed “Better Luck Tomorrow” (2002) before he took the helm for “Tokyo Drift” and other movies in the lineup. This film can be interesting to watch as it features Han Lue (Sung Kang) and serves as an unofficial origin story for the character. Though not officially part of the Fast & Furious franchise, many fans and Lin consider it part of Han’s backstory.

To include it in your chronological viewing, place it directly after the first “The Fast and the Furious.”

Is the ‘Fast and Furious’ Series Ending?

The follow-up to “Fast X,” which is currently in development for a 2026 release, is expected to conclude the mainline series. However, multiple spinoffs are also in the works. While a sequel to “Hobbs & Shaw” has been canceled, an alternate project titled “Hobbs & Reyes” will feature Dwayne Johnson and Jason Momoa, bridging “Fast X” and its sequel.

Additionally, Zach Dean, the screenwriter for “Fast X,” is developing a standalone film within the Fast universe. A female-led spinoff is also in the pipeline, with writers Lindsey Anderson Beer, Nicole Perlman, and Geneva Robertson-Dworet involved.

Enjoy the ride through the Fast and Furious saga, whether you watch it by release date or chronologically!
